Quick Natural Fixes for Razor Burn

What you want: smooth, soft, newly shaven skin. What you have: a painful, red, itchy rash. The culprit? Razor burn. Razor burn is a common problem among people who shave regularly, but that doesn’t make it any less pleasant. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to naturally soothe and heal this uncomfortable and unattractive rash. Here are a few of our favorites.

Our Favorite Quick Natural Fixes for Razor Burn

Fix #1: Honey and Apple Cider Rinse: This rinse combines two powerful ingredients – honey and apple cider vinegar. Honey has antibacterial properties, as well as an ability to soothe and moisturize. Apple cider vinegar is cooling and can help get rid of inflammation. When used together, they’re a great way to relieve your skin of painful shaving bumps. First, lightly cover your skin with a layer of honey. Let it sink in for five minutes, then wash it away with cold water. Dry your skin, then splash apple cider vinegar over the same area. Let it air dry, and enjoy your happier skin.

Fix #2: Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe Vera is the perfect way to soothe away bumps and rashes on the face, legs, underarms, and bikini area. Its cooling properties will give you some relief from the burning and stinging, plus it will keep your skin moisturized, which will help speed up the healing process. Earth’s Daughter’s Aloe Vera doesn’t contain any artificial fragrances or anything else that can irritate the skin, making it as safe a choice as getting your aloe right from the plant. Simply rub some of the gel on the skin affected by razor burn, let it dry on its own, then rinse it off. Do this two or three times a day to get rid of pesky razor burn.

Fix #3: Black Tea: Don’t throw out those tea bags! Black tea contains tannic acid, which helps to lessen inflammation and redness. This makes tea bags a convenient way to get rid of razor burn. Use warm water to moisten a black tea bag, then let it cool in the refrigerator for ten minutes. Then, gently rub the bag over the rash for a few minutes. Repeat as needed.

Fix #4: A Cold Compress: A cold compress is a simple way to reduce inflammation and find relief from that pesky burning sensation. Simply soak a clean towel or wash cloth in cold water, wring out the extra moisture, fold it up, and place it over the parts of your skin affected by razor burn. When the towel warms up, repeat these steps. You can do this as many times a day as you’d like.

Avoiding Razor Burn

Natural razor burn fixes are great, but avoiding razor burn altogether is even better. Follow these steps to avoid those itchy, stinging bumps:

  • Change your razor every two weeks (or five uses) to reduce dullness and bacteria growth.
  • Keep your razor clean of buildup to reduce skin irritation.
  • Shave with the grain of your hair to reduce ingrown hairs and irritation.
  • Shave in the shower – the hot water will soften your hair and make it easier to remove.
  • Use a shaving gel to protect your skin while shaving without clogging your pores
  • Apply a little Aloe Vera after you shave to keep bumps and inflammation from forming.
  • Razor burn is a pain, but with a little preparation and a few natural fixes up your sleeve you’ll never have to worry about it again.
